UTStarcom PPC-6700

Ok,

I have been a palm fan for a long time because of the number of apps. I bought a tungsten W which was a gsm phone and PDA with a built in keyboard and I could dock it to a keyboard on the universal connector. Loved it but could never use the phone feature because of all in the US locked to AT&T. Anyway, Had been searching high and low for another device that really "would do it all". Could not believe when I found this little gem. Mine is through verizon (the cesspool of cellular-- I hate them because they cripple phones). Anyway... bought the phone, set it up. Have been using it for a month now-- I LOVE THIS PHONE.
- excellent cell phone
- bluetooth headset works great (have tried with both jabra and motorolla)
- bluetooth connectivity to other devices (other phones, laptops, etc.) works *EXCELLENT*
- WIFI support is EXCELLENT!!!
- Cellular modem to Internet is *EXCELLENT*.
- I added a 1 GB mini-SD card and have 165 MP3s on it
- MP3 and Windows Media compatible VIDEOS *AWESOME*
- voice dialing-- excellent

Battery life has been excellent and I use a USB cable between my laptop and it to charge it when I'm on the road.

I use the keyboard and it's a little bit awkward but workable.

I think microsoft's mobile 5.0 is a little immature and some of the winblows apps are a little immature but the hardware is AWESOME.

Someone commented about the sensitivity of the buttons on the side-- yes, I found that, too-- HOWEVER you have the ability to disable them from within the settings and I did that and that solved the problem.

Overall Can't say enough good about the phone and verizon didn't cripple anything on it.

Am now looking for some reliable SSH and cisco VPN client solutions for it in order to access corp network remotely. *VERY* happy.

First off, there is nothing wrong with this phone other than it is not as thin as the Motorola Q, however it would not have the right feel and set of features either!

Full WEP Wifi works with excellent range, Bluetooth keeps my headset connected and laptop sync’d. Battery life is on par with any other major phone, if not better. I can stream my SIRIUS over my Wifi network and the music will pause, ms voice command will announce the caller in my ear bud, I can take the call and hang up and the music will resume where it left off. Now try that on a Treo700!

All other phone companies are just now adding 1.3 Megapixel cameras; maybe they will realize they forgot the video and panoramic features that the PPC-6700 has already mastered.

More onboard memory would be nice but not necessary considering you can pick up 1GB miniSD’s for cheap nowadays. Most my best MP3’s are now on it ;-). The only thing making it freeze is people load up a bunch of unnecessary software on the main memory which takes away from the response time of Windows Mobile OS.

IT DOES HAVE VOICE DIAL. Of course it wasn’t added until just now with their latest update to the phone, which by-the-way fixes “every” bug that I have read about to date. I was already love stricken with Microsoft’s Voice Command so I decided to purchase a copy and it is as easy to use as the newly added voice dial.
