Virgin Mobile

Virgin Mobile Canada was launched in 2005 as a joint venture between Virgin Group and BCE Inc., and stayed as such until BCE took sole ownership in 2009.

Virgin Mobile began as a prepaid service only, finally adding postpaid wireless service for its members in 2008.

HSPA+ was officially launched for postpaid members in 2010, with prepaid customers gaining access in early 2011. In March 2012, Virgin Mobile brought Bell’s 4G LTE network speeds to select Canadian markets, providing peak speeds up to 75 Mbps. Outside 4G LTE coverage areas, members fall back to the 4G HSPA+ network.

See the Virgin Mobile coverage map for more detail.

Virgin Mobile has a Connection Fee (Activation Fee) of $30 on new activations or upgrades, however this fee can be waived by activating or renewing online.
