WIND Mobile to Provide Enhanced 911

October 14, 2009

Today WIND Mobile announced it’s partnership with Andrew Solutions to provide Canadians with enhanced 911 services, a technology all carriers will be required to provide by February 2010 (in order to comply with CRTC regulations made in January of this year).

The Andrew solution includes a combination of A-GPS (Assisted-GPS) and hybrid technology that adds wireless network measurement information to the GPS location (when the call started, the cell phone’s power level) to better determine the caller’s location - which would come in handy if you didn’t know exactly where you were.

“We are committed to creating the best wireless experience for Canadians which also includes ensuring their safety in times of emergency,” said Ken Campbell, CEO of WIND.
