Windows Marketplace Now Available to OS 6.0, 6.1 Users

November 17, 2009

Microsoft is playing catch-up in the application storefront business, and has taken big steps in the past month, including the announcement last week that the app store is now available online from the PC.

Now Microsoft is now providing its application marketplace to older Windows Mobile devices, promising that 90 percent of the 800 applications in the catalogue will be compatible.

The Marketplace, which launched on Windows Mobile 6.5 about a month ago, now will be available to Windows 6.0 and 6.1 users, a market that is estimated to be about 30 million devices worldwide.
