Nokia's Free Ovi Maps tops 1.4 million Downloads

Nokia Phone with Ovi MapsNokia made their Ovi Maps application free to download on January 21, 2010 and has since seen over 1.4 million downloads.  Nokia has stated that they are seeing a download every second.

As of 31 January 2010 the top five countries downloading the new version of Ovi Maps were: China, Italy, UK, Germany and Spain. The top five most popular Nokia devices installing the download were: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia N97 mini, Nokia N97, Nokia 5230 and Nokia E72.

Nokia plans on pre-loading Ovi Maps on all future phones & smartphones providing them with an even larger install base.

Some analysts are predicting the death of companies like TomTom & Magellan with the runaway success of Ovi Maps and Google's Plans to include similar software with their Android 2.0 OS.
