We've been keeping an eye on Mobile World Congress 2018 happening in Barcelona this week, and are pleased to share Sony's announcement of two new smartphones. There is no official launch date yet, but both devices are expected sometime next month. Both the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact show "Coming soon" on the Sony Canada website.
A new design, but these phones include Sony's consistently solid specifications: A great 19 Megapixel main camera system and fast charging capabilities with QuickCharge 3.0 (and the full-sized XZ2 also has Qi wireless charging!). Both devices come with NFC connectivity, 64GB of internal storage space, a fingerprint sensor, and utilize an Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. The XZ2 can reach LTE Cat 18 download speeds of up to 1.2 Gbps, and the XZ2 Compact can reach 800 Mbps - which is still very fast.
The XZ2 will come in Liquid Silver, Liquid Black, Deep Green and Ash Pink finishes, though according to Sony's website it appears that only the Liquid Black finish will be sold in Canada. As for the XZ2 Compact, it will be available in White Silver, Black, Moss Green and Coral Pink - though White Silver seems to be the only option for purchase on Sony Canada's website.
Unlocked versions of both devices will be available in the US, and Best Buy and Amazon will make them available to Canadians unless more carriers decide to carry them in the future. No prices are available yet but we will let you know when Sony releases more details.
