Weak frame >> screen cracked in 4 hours >> unusable

Reviewed on Monday November 26, 2018 by , Burnaby
set it up in the afternoon, went out to event, took a few photos, went to take more discovered screen cracked and flickering (phone was not dropped) - could not use it at all - since we paid $29 at 7-11 it is not worth fixing - but not worth buying either

Figo - Maybe a good buy, maybe not

CON #1 - Memory . With only 8gb of memory there is little room for apps. The system memory and junk apps (uninstallable) take up 7gb so I have just 4 apps installed and I still am getting the memory warning. I have tried moving every possible app over to my 16gb sd card but most are not moveable.
CON#2 - Connectivity - The bluetooth on this device will not stay connected to the bluetooth in my car. Given the steep fines for having a cell phone in your hand while driving, the $40 phone could soon end up costing me several hundred. Similarly, the wifi connection is not strong. I had to turn off my mobile data plan as I was going way over it. I tried many things but the only solution, in the end, seemed to be to disconnect my mobile data or risk a huge bill. I never had a problem with my data usage when I used my Blackberry. The increased cost of data would wipe out the savings of this phone's price tag quite quickly. Connecting to public wifi is hit and miss. It mostly stays connected to the wifi at work but not always. This phone is fine for anyone who needs the phone for mainly talk and text and wants a nice looking screen or for someone who isn't very limited in their data plan. For the right type of user, this phone is a real bargain. For the wrong type of user, this phone is a bargain that keeps costing time and money.

Good phone for $40 but has lots of faults

Reviewed on Saturday October 6, 2018 by , Hamilton
I got this phone for $40 with a $100 top up from 7-11. I had just destroyed by BB9900 so I needed a quick replacement. This isn't close to my 9900 but it has some merits. The screen is nice and responsive. The camera seems to take good pictures. Audio quality for phone calls is acceptable. Battery life is quite good. I have the screen at half brightness and the battery lasts me about 14 or more hours. The few apps I do have load quickly and perform well most of the time. It is a bit on the large size but is in the pocketable range. I had the Blackberry PRIV before this and it was just a shade larger but that difference was enough that I couldn't readily pocket the PRIV. I had to often set it down and, it was therefore, predictably, stolen. The price of this phone is quite attractive and a reasonable person knows ahead of time that a $40 phone is going to come with serious limitations. The question is, are those limitations such that even $40 is too much? There are some major cons to this phone.

Not too terrible for fifty bucks

I've picked this up at a 711 store with a sim card and $100 prepaid airtime voucher after their web site failed to complete the purchase. It is actually a considerable upgrade over the Blu Advance 4, another $50 phone (also from 711) which I had for a couple of years until I lost it (hence the replacement). Folks with more expensive phones may sneer, but there's really nothing wrong with it as a phone, web and email browser. My only quibble thus far is that it seems to have more limited battery life than the 4L, but it has a massively bigger screen. Very good value thus far, we'll see how it holds up.
