I Love This Phone!

Reviewed on Monday June 9, 2008 by , Ontario, Canada
I got my LG 490 just about a year ago and it's still working awesomely, the battery hasn't caused any problems. I did get that error once, but it was because I was on the browser (which I don't use all the time anyways).
The only con's about this phone are that:
1) You can't apply ringers you bought to text messages
2) You can't record video
3) Not a large screen to see text when you're writing a text message.

Aside from that, I love the buttons, it helps to text a lot quicker when I need to spend less time texting, good reception even in basements, may be bulky but definitely worth it :)

LG 490

I'd give the LG 490 an 7.5 out of 10.
Great reception
Nice screen
Great camera with lots of options
Charges quickly
Lots of memory to download games, right-tones, etc.
great fast-tap
scratch resistant, i have the camera in my pocket with my keys and after a year of use, not a single scratch. Even dropped it a few times and still no scratches.

Only has two brightness settings for the screen (it's either normal or too bright)
Had an error come up a few times that froze the screen, had to resort to pulling the battery.
Cannot record videos with the camera

To the previous poster:
the camera has a lot of functions to take pictures in the dark. Turn on the camera and explore the camera functions. First turn up the brightness (#3), turn on the flash (#4), and turn on the night-mode (#8) and you will find that the detail is great in the dark.

Not bad but not great.

I read this review and going from a LG-535 to the LG-490, this phone is not good.

The pre-loaded ringers are louder than downloaded ringers. At the loudest volume good luck of hearing the ringer unless its dead quiet around you.

Playing games the extra button get in the way.

Texting is a way better but have to get use to not have a whole screen to type on but the screen does grow. You can also write the whole message without opening another whole screen.

Love the alarms. You can sent up as many as you need. Still wish it was louder.

I just needed to replace my last phone the LG-535 due to freezing problems and the one year warranty was up and two years left on a contract.

LG-535 was my first LG phone. Maybe in a few years they'll get better or I just got the wrong phones.

When picking my next phone I'll stick to the higher end of the phones but also I think I'll also stick to Samsung phones. I had three and they still working, just to old in the technology area. I used each for up to fours years.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Best phone I have ever used!

This is by far the best phone i have ever owned/used. The fast tap is probably one of the best features of the phone. Very quick and easy to send text's and e-mails. The camera on it works great, not so good in the dark but it does have the built in light to help, it can also up to about 500 pictures on the internal memory. Great sound quality for ring tone and for talking. Great screen size to view pictures or large texts so you don't have to scroll all the time to read what is sent to you. Great reception everywhere, small antenna but works like a charm. Very durable, it has had everything done to it...dropped, kicked, stepped on, you name it, it has happened and it is still in perfect condition with no scratch on the glossy part on the front of the phone. The problem i had with this phone was not being able to go onto the web browser after downloading a ring tone, but that was fixed. LG makes the greatest phone. I really recommend this phone if you like to text message and take pictures.
