To compete with Rogers-owned chatr Wireless, and TELUS-owned Public Mobile, Bell Mobility/BCE Inc. has launched their own prepaid mobile rate plan solution today, Lucky Mobile. This new carrier is available to subscribers in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario only at this time, but coverage will expand to service 17 zones and most major Canadian cities.
"Lucky Mobile is an all-new mobile service for people who want a straightforward, low-cost prepaid option that offers all the talk, text and data options they need. Whether you're a student or young person just entering the workforce, a senior on a fixed income, a new Canadian who hasn't yet built up a credit profile or anyone looking for the easiest and most affordable wireless experience, Lucky Mobile puts you in control. There is fast-growing demand from many Canadians for new lost-cost mobile options, and Lucky Mobile is here to lead the way," said Blaik Kirby, President of Bell Mobility.
Lucky Mobile is very similar to chatr Wireless. Lucky offers customers several low-budget phones and smartphones, and 7 prepaid rate plans. The plans are divided into local-use "Zone Plans" or "Province & Canada-wide plans" with wider coverage (Similar to Shaw-owned Freedom Mobile).
All plans include voicemail, unlimited nationwide and international incoming calls and text messages, call display, call waiting, and three-way/conference calling. Modest data options are also available at 3G (3 Mbps) speeds. Plans start at $20.
A unique feature offered is no overage fees and/or automatic charges. If a customer is about to use services not included in their plan then Lucky will first notify them via text message with the option to purchase a "Service Pass". Service Passes cover a range of extra options including additional 3G data and international calling, and they are valid for 30 days at a time. Service Passes cost either $3 or $5.
Lucky Mobile also plans to release an app that enables calling and texting over a Wi-Fi connection sometime next year.
